Paris

Besides recommending the Bordeaux, baguettes and ice cream (beware- I discovered that partaking in these daily causes weight gain~who knew?). Viator offers an open-topped, double decker bus tour to see Paris at night. It is worth every penny, uh, euro! Headphones offer lovely music and language translations as you glide through the streets. It is a “must do” on any Paris trip!

Summer on Sanibel Island

One of favorite places on earth is Sanibel island, Florida! For those of you who are already pooh-poohing a Florida summer let me assure you that in the last 15 years we’ve never experienced a hotter summer there than in Virginia! The good news is that summer is the “off season” for Sanibel! The West Wind Inn is our home away from home while there. The hotel sits on the Gulf of Mexico and its beaches hold the most beautiful shells imaginable! While on Sanibel be sure to visit neighboring Captiva Island over the causeway to have a drink at the Mucky Duck. You can enjoy a glorious sunset and watch the wind surfers while you wiggle your toes in the sand! Heavenly….

Summer Eats

Your own fall off the bone ribs!If you don’t want to go out for ribs then here’s the secret to your own fall off the bone ribs! Set your oven to 200°. Flip your ribs over with the curved bone facing up. Take a knife and gently lift the skin or silver on the back. Grab this with a paper towel and pull it off (this trick really works!). Generously salt and pepper both sides. I prefer coarse ground. Divide the ribs in half and wrap each half in heavy duty foil. Add one cup of beer to each pouch~ we used Guinness! Place the pouches on a tray in the oven and bake for three hours. Remove ribs from the oven and take off the foil. Save the drippings to make your own dipping sauce. Place the ribs over indirect heat on the grill for one hour with the lid closed. After an hour open the lid and brown on both sides (about15 minutes). My husband says the secret to this recipe is to have a beer in your hand at all times! Enjoy!
